Pride of an anime fan?

An anime related incident; I met someone asian who did not watch/read anime/manga and actually disapproves of it, saying that it is 'sick and twisted'. At the time I didn't come up with any good comebacks because well, the things I like to watch/read are actually considered sick and twisted, lol, so nothing really occurred to me. But yeah, it's the first time really, that someone who's Chinese and my age said something like that about anime. It was on the bus too, and the first time I've really talked to him so it was awkward. It was really surprising... most of the Chinese/asian people I know have at least heard of anime/manga and are at least okay with other people watching/reading it. I said that I expected him to be more asian than this, because he's from China and lived in China for half his life, and his reply was that he's asian but not like that kind of asian, more "Chinese-asian".. like not Japanese influenced asian.. x_X"" The only comics he reads are like Chinese ones or english comic strips, ie. kevin and hobbs(?)...... and that's not even a real comic like Batman or whatever... =_=''''

He totally hurt my pride as an anime fan. =_=;; I mean, just because someone enjoys watching/reading anime and manga doesn't mean they're... not Chinese or have Japanese-sympathies, or that they're really sick, (maybe just a little lol).

His excuse is that he's Chinese-asian or whatever, but is that really how it is in China, like barely any anime/manga? I always thought that China would have just as much anime/manga as any other asian place. I mean I know people from China who like anime/manga (I'm excluding Hong Kong from this because obviously Hong Kong has tons of anime/manga, almost as much as like Japan lol) and some of them are crazy about it, and crazy yaoi fans too. My friend's cousin lives in China.. and she cosplays too.. So, isn't it just him? =_=;;; I really don't know for sure but what he said really annoys me.

Anyways, I've ranted long enough.. x_X"" please feel free to rant about anything back to me. Makes me pissed off, which may have led me to be mean.... but seriously, try to actually talk to me. I can't pull each word out of you. And it annoys me when someone doesn't spit out what they want to say, waiting for *you* to talk. If we both wait, there will be no talking. So yes.
Bio fuels and inefficiency

This is what my organic chem professor told us today about the use of carbohydrates, food like corn for bio fuels, which I believe bears repeating.

Corn which is being used right now for the production of bio fuels (which has hiked up the price of bread and who knows, maybe gas too), has only 1/7 of the sugar/energy that is found in sugar cane/suger beets, corn is *not* ideal for creating bio fuels.

Corn is not genetically ideal for production of carbohydrates/sugar. The use of sugar beets and sugar cane is by far more efficient, and there have been successful production of fuels from sugar beets. He also said to us, quite honestly, the whole reason why they're even using corn for fuel is because lobbyists in the US have been pushing for it. And that any scientist can tell you that the use of corn to create fuel is crap, inefficient, basically corn (and probably grains) shouldn't have come into consideration at all, since it is too low in energy to use, when compared to other sources with higher sugar content.

■ So is the production of bio fuels right now really as environmentally friendly as they say it is? And is it necessary to do it this way, with corn? Are food and gas prices being hiked up for a legitmate reason? Do not just believe what you hear from the media about things like this, especially if it is being promoted by the US. I'm not trying to be discriminating here, the facts are leading to this conclusion, if you live in the US, or whatever, it's about time to wake up and smell the coffee. Don't trust the media blindly, just because it seems like everyone is saying it. Especially when everyone is saying it, because it's probably been advertised by the US- ie. american companies.

American companies don't usually promote anything unless there is some kind of benefit to them (and screw the consequences for anyone else), even if it's only to a small group of people.

They're only pushing environmentally friendly products right now because there is going to be huge profits. If something is *really* environmentally friendly it's likely that most people wouldn't even know about it, because its going to cost a lot just to implement and the profits are not going to be great, at least not in the beginning. Ex. electically powered cars- there has been a lot of research done on them, but it's only recently that we've been hearing about producing anything like that, and we're still using mostly fuel. Why? Probably because american companies having been buying up these research projects and shutting them down, a lot more profit is made from fuel.

I've been hearing a lot about clothing made from environmentally friendly materials like bamboo and such, but it's questionable as to just how eco-friendly it is. To make something like bamboo fibres into fabric probably takes a lot of processing, if it's going through so much processing in the first place, it's not likely to be as eco-friendly as its said to be.

People always love some kind of controversial issue to support, but make sure you're not being doped into thinking you're supporting the 'controversial' side. If mainstream (american) media is siding with it, it is definitely not an issue of minority vs. majourity. It's majourity trying to disguise itself as an issue that targets and focuses on minorities.

Beowulf Movie

Actually I did like the movie overall, contrary to some of the people I know who watched it. It definitely is not going to be just a screen copy of the poem, and it really couldn't have been, because the biggest scene was the fight with Grendel, and even that wasn't going to give you a real plot nor is it long enough. The computer animation is not bad, towards the end, the men looked so realistic, but most of the scenes looked real bar the movement. I think it'd be even better to watch the 3D version.

I'm sure some people didn't like the movie just because it 'deviated' from the original piece. But I really don't think that should be a problem for anyone watching it, to me the movie could have been a thesis to a paper on Beowulf, and what could have happened in between the fighting and everything. Yes, Grendel's mother is supposed to be a monster, and yes, in the movie she is a monster, just because Angelina Jolie was playing her doesn't mean she really isn't. In the beginning, before you even see Angelina Jolie come full out on screen, you can see Grendel's mother reflected off some metal, and what you see in there was actually inhuman and monster-y. The reason why we see human celebrity Angelina Jolie with a tail to signal her demonic origins instead of that monster form, is because it's an illusion or just a form she takes on to seduce humans. So it's not really contradicting the poem or whatever, more like expanding on it. The 'heels', lol, she wasn't actually wearing shoes, although it is a modern touch.

The premise to this entire movie is that Beowulf was never as much of a hero as he was immortalized to be. I read the production notes on the Beowulf site, while trying to find out if everything really was animation, and I do agree with some of what they said about the original poem. It is very cut up, when I read it before it certainly was short, I just assumed that it was just an excerpt from the whole thing. If it is the whole thing, then I can understand why the scriptwriters have formed their own theories on how the poem may have been written, or the story told, before it was transcribed by monks or what not. The battle with Grendel was certainly very epic, with many themes of good and evil, (although doesn't it sound like there is a biblical element to it? When the poem or the story should have predated the spread of Christianity in that part of Europe?), yet I don't know if the Beowulf I read could have been popular and epic enough to have survived the years it did. After the fight with Grendel everything seemed to be rushing towards the end; Beowulf's fight with the dragon and subsequent death had nothing on the fight with Grendel. Therefore, it would not be a total stretch of the imagination if some of the original story thad been cut out, for being a little too interesting for the times it was finally recorded in. The movie is what the scriptwriters figured the story could have been originally, by reading between the lines and probably taking a good, long and entertaining guess.

In the beginning, the movie was slow to start, and there were parts where I thought it was overdoing the drama, but you realize soon enough, that the fight and killing of Grendel is only the start, as opposed to in the poem where it seems to be the start of the end. After that, the movie becomes more entertaining on many levels, mostly because you see some of the humanity in the story, which hardly existed in the poem version. We can only really connect with the uglier side of humanity, and here we see more complications in the plot that makes Beowulf a bit less about the computer animation and action.

When I went to see the movie and stepped into the threatre, there were actually rather few people, but most notably everyone that was seated was male. Not a surprise I suppose, but Beowulf seems to pose as a warning to men. Beowulf is obviously one of the prime examples of the male ideal (stereotype), but even a warrier like Beowulf can fall to such simple things, unable to imagine the consequences until it was too late. The paradox, I suppose in the film, is that while Beowulf was the strongest, greatest while he was young, he made the biggest mistake of his life, only to realize later on in his old age just how weak he was back then, defeater of monsters and all. The fall of a great man does make an impact, more of an impact than all of Hollywood's heroes. It was really nice to be able to see Beowulf in his old age, full of regrets. I like how this movie doesn't make anyone in it a hero, or any side the 'good' side because you're allowed to see the brutality.

All the new moniters out now are widescreen! Damn it. An absolute unnecessarity! You can't even see images properly anymore. If anyone can actually show me a way to adjust the moniter so that pictures aren't squished, please do so!! Now I also see why people are using S2 layouts... not because it looks better or anything, but if the resolution sizes get any bigger, your typical image background is not going to stay! The image to the left on my LJ does not stay on the bottom right hand corner of the screen. =_= It is supposed to... but on a wide screen moniter it usually just doesn't, if you go up in resolution. Then again, it can be sort of tweaked.... probably. But still, the only reason they are even selling moniters like that is because they want to make a load of money off people. It's a freaking marketing ploy so everyone has to go and buy the new moniters because there are no square-ish ones and the website are changing their layouts to go with the flow. =_= To view them properly you'd have to use those new moniters.

GRRRR.

How are you even supposed to look at digital pictures off a camera on the computer? It won't actually look like how its going to come out, because everything will be squished albeit slightly.

ETA: Well, the resolution question has been solved.
It's Christmas again~! I haven't posted very much this year, >.<; let's just say that I procrastinate everything. X_X"" So has the year been eventful for you guys? @_@

I'm still slaving away at uni, jumping hops and trying to fulfill my pre-requisites. =_= I was unfortunate enough to take economics as an elective, which really made an otherwise leisurely year nerve wracking. Has anyone ever heard of a course in uni, in which there is no midterm and with the final is worth 89% of your final grade?? Should be illegal! +_+ Of course our marks were scaled up by 15%, otherwise half the class would have failed. =_=;

But I am finally finished with physics~! :) I've already listed my physics textbooks on the facebook market place, hopefully someone will buy it soon. I also found all those textbooks I thought I lost this summer, in a shoebox. =.=

Oh and during the exams, I've developed a really nasty allergic reaction to *something* I've been eating; my lips were peeling and swollen and hurt like a b*tch everytime I ate. Gah! It was torture, because I didn't know what it was, and no amount of moisturizing helped. ;_: Stupid body. Now I can't eat anything. I don't even know what it is I'm allergic to. A couple of days ago I must have ate something I'm allergic to again, problem is I ate/was in contact with 3 new substances, and I have no idea which it is.

Some of the suspects, previously, were; cocoa butter (I used a cocoa butter chapstick), and maybe my peanut & shellfish allergy. =_=

Now, it could be chocolate (unsurprising, as there probably is cocoa butter in it), Labello (lipbalm), and/or my new Anna Sui lipstick =__________= damnit. Hope it's not the lipstick.... but it has almond oil in it. ;_____; And chocolate... >< Something I love, which I already knew I shouldn't eat too much of. A tragedy.

I'm suffering from post-exam (/marks) syndrome right now, a combination of stress, anxiety and restlessness. =_= It's like I spent so much time waiting for the marks to come out and worrying about them, when they finally come out I still feel stressed?? I had a dream that I had to study for an exam. ;_: I was stressed in my sleep, then I woke up and realized it was the holidays and the exams were already over. =_= What a paradox.

We didn't put up a Christmas tree this year, our tree has always been a bit 'threadbare' and scraggly (my computer just rebooted itself for no reason as I was trying to find a word to describe the tree. =_= Therefore scraggly may not be a word. lol.), so we're not very Christmasy this year. >_< I sort of miss the Christmas atmosphere of old. I don't even hear the carols much... I know people who are sick and tired of Christmas cheer, from having to project it at work. :( But yeah... I miss it.

It's really amazing how a Christmas gift can make everything feel so much more like Christmas though. @_@ It's not even about the present, just the thought and the holidays. My friends aren't really into gift giving, and yeah I can see why, it can get expensive, and time consuming. But without it, it doesn't feel the same. I think next year, we should exchange gifts. It doesn't have to get expensive, since there are places like Daiso, you can still find good gifts there even if the stuff is cheap. It's really up to you to find a good present. University is already an impersonal enough place, so it's a good idea to take advantage of the holidays to have gatherings and such.

I'm turing 20~~!!!!! Omg. =_= Time passes so fast, I'm getting old! In just ~2 weeks, (Jan. 8) I will be 20. Wah. Sadness. Why am I always older than everyone else in my year. ><*

I was trying to get a new LJ comm off the ground before the exams... and like for everything else I have to do, I procrastinated it.. >< Well I will try to move my ass, sorry Aidannwn.

As for everyone else (and you too Aidannwn),

Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year~!

Spending money makes me feel guilty and satisfied but this time, these boots are waterproof and hopefully useful for UBC. And you find out about things that you never knew. ^^"""

5. Finishing my math midterm. Not failing the physics midterm? @_@"" Wasn't that far away from it though. =_=

7. Seeing Debbie, having a little chat with her. :)

8.
In response to multiculturalism debate

For those of you who live in Canada, you probably know about Bruce Allen and his rather controversal remarks about Canada and tolerance for immigrant values. I'm not going to rehash everything he said, he tried to make his talk about how Canada should be more tolerant, and then somehow he ended up contradicting his own points by acting like a bigot.

I have noticed that there are many Bruce Allen supporters out there, being very vocal about their opinions, because I can see about 4 comments from them on the local daily and not even one protesting against his remarks. So who's overreacting? According to an article on the same paper, '"we're at that stage where we're trying to clumsily deal with difference, but at the same time there has been a huge backlash,' Berg (UBC professor) says as proven by the support for Allen", I agree with Berg, on the surface it seems like he is merely stating what a "majority" of Canadians think. And sadly we see many people on the paper agreeing and congradulating him for having the guts to say it, many of them being white or at least not 'visible minority' Canadians.

Why do they feel that he is brave for saying this, and feel so vindicated? Because there is social and governmental pressure not to express prejudices and discriminate against these minorities, so they don't feel they can voice their resentment. Well, in that case they are most probably habouring some repressed resentment and prejudice towards these minorities.

Many people did refute what Bruce Allen said, and there was protest against the message he was giving, but that is to be expected! If there wasn't any protest against his remarks, multiculturalism and democracy would have been at an all time low~! In every country this remark would spark a debate, yet there are people who say in their emailed responses, "why are we surprised at what he said? He's only saying what many Canadians feel." Well! We come off as a very multicultural country yet as its citizens we are supposed to expect that immigrants need to drop their cultural values in order to 'integrate' into Canadian society? That is called assimilation NOT integration. That would be the American policy. Please get that clear. While some worries may be legit, I have a very strong feeling that we are not specifically addressing those issues, considering Bruce Allen's high handed comment about there being a door, and if immigrants don't want to want to confirm to Canadian values and culture, they can leave through it.

What many people are not aware of is that Racism, is no longer the Racism we knew 10, 20, 30 years ago. Many would feel that Bruce Allen's message did not constitute Racism, and supporters of Bruce Allen are not practicing a form of Racism. Well, the vast majourity of people are very misinformed. It is quite official, and we spent an extensive amount of time covering Racism in social psychology, that Racism has gone underground this day and age. Racism isn't just beating up minorities or calling them names, making fun of their skin colour and so on. People are not as free to express their prejudices or discrimination because of laws in place. There is societal and legal pressure against being *openly* Racist. Neo-Racism is what we call Racism that is more commonly taking place. Such as institutions not hiring minority groups, or preferring white Canadians over minorities even with similar creditials. Resentment of the concessions/advantages/consideration made for minority groups also counts. It's hard to explain these situations without referring to the textbook, but these situations occur frequently, more frequently than the more aggressive patterns that we associate with the concept of Racism.

Racism in NOT dead in Canada. It's just coming out in more repressed ways, because people, Racists and all, have difficulty dealing with superficial differences. But unfortunately, white Canadians, or Canadians who are not visible minorities, don't understand that minorities don't always get equal treatment. In fact a lot of the time its just been blown out of proportion, exactly how free of discrimination Canada is. That is because people have trouble applying rules and the idea of multiculturalism to themselves. =_=' People have trouble thinking of themselves as part of humanity, especially when humanity is being criticized and therefore fail to curtail their own negative actions.

Also, we now have a situation where we know Racism is bad, as it says negative things about one's character, and as a result people who are Racists, vehemently deny being Racists, and in fact claim to 'hate Racists'. Yet they are acting in bigotted ways. Sometimes they aren't aware of it, sometimes they explain it away, and all because it contradicts their self image of being a nice and fair human being. Canadians are sometimes very removed from reality, because they often times ignore 'actions' in favour of 'words', while we know that "actions speak louder than words".

One can speak of being very open-minded, and democractic, yet behave in a visibly hypocritical and bigoted manner.

If you apply the standards of Neo-Racism to Bruce Allen's message, he is acting well within the bounds of Racism. And people who support his words also are in danger of being Racist.

Therefore many of these Canadians must get off their high horses, and start admitting to themselves that they are prejudiced. I know I am prejudiced, some times more than others, because it is almost impossible to say that one is not prejudiced and I can't say that I have never discriminated against anyone either because I'm sure I have. Those who believe themselves to be free of all prejudices are the ones who are at risk of becoming blatant hypocrites and Racists. In my opinion, being prejudiced doesn't mark you has a bigot or a Racist, but discriminating based on these prejudices might. People who felt strongly enough to write about supporting Bruce Allen have already stepped within the bounds of discrimination and Racism, be it due to ignorance or deeply rooted prejudice.

One thing to take home with you, think about the things you say, whether it is in 'jest' or complete seriousness, are you in fact making racist remarks? Are you doing it regularly? Stereotyping minority groups? Well, if you are, maybe Racism and discrimination isn't as dead in this country as you assumed it was, and you should give protesters more credit.

P.S. Bruce Allen should be allowed to say what he wants, because everyone has the right of free speech. Well, yes in general that is true, people are allowed to say what they think, but there is a limit, and that limit is that his words should not cause direct or indirect harm to someone else. Otherwise, anyone can say anything the hell they want, verbal abuse, slander, anything and not have to face legal consequences. We see this is not the case, therefore a line must have been drawn somewhere in the range specified by 'free speech'.

I know that there is speculation that Naruto's dad, the forth, is the leader of akatsuki. But he's too young to be the forth, plus he doesn't look like him... And apparently he isn't the leader anyways? @__@""" That guy at the end with the single sharingan eye, seems to be the real leader, and for some reason he looks like Tobi... X_X The one who supposingly died.

Anyways, the manga is getting really interesting.

Just finished reading DH, which was quite a ride. I didn't think i was going to buy the book, at least not so soon, but yeah those 'pictures' of the pages got really frustrating being so damn bleary. So i went and bought the book and finished reading it before my sister has had a chance to spoil anything for me~! XD

Generally, I would say well done, although i was surprised i wasn't as teary as i thought i would be, considering that i get pretty sentimental, and i usually sort of tear up when i watch/read things that i feel are worth viewing. Maybe because i wanted to find out what happened at the end... Anyways, was i the only one that noticed some inconsistancies? Or plot holes.... I haven't actually read the Half Blood Prince, so maybe that's part of it, but the whole thing with the locket and how it affected them, why the hell couldn't harry just freaking put it in his pouch thing that he got as a present? x__X" They just had to *wear* it the whole time? =____+""

And also, i'm a bit confused about Dumbledore's talk about the hallows etc. towards the end. He couldn't resist temptation, and he put on the ring.. which he imagined would bring people back to life, or at least some ghostly version of it where they are on the same plane as the living. But isn't that what the stone is for? The ring is something else isn't it? x_x' That was a bit confusing...

But yeah, Harry as the last horcrux was predicted 100x over by fanfic writers... soooooo well it wasn't that surprising. Or maybe even that original. -__+'' Just surprising that she actually made it happen.

The writing this time is better, better than the order of the phoenix at least, as i recall that the begining was slow and the number of times she tried to use slang uneffectively was annoying. This time, there weren't any of those annoying wanna be american phrases she kept stuffing in. And more description, more thought put into the descriptions. I've always thought that J.K. Rowling would be a better director than a writer, since she is really good at directing the action and the plot, she's the type of writer who's a natural with describing dialogue and actual physical action. In the every day stuff though, she wasn't very good at keeping it all interesting, but this time it was better. Though it may in part be because it is the last book, and everything has become a lot more hurried and a lot more action per part. Still much more interesting and easier to get into than the previous books. I might even like it better because it gets so much more realistic, in the way that you know it feels like reality because its so crazy that you know it has to be real. Lots of juxtaposition, if only because it seems a little fairytale like, narration is sometimes a bit removed like listening to a tale, so when shocking and negative things happen its all the more disturbing.

Oh yeah, the fairytale/folktale about the brothers and death, sounded a lot like chaucer.

I was warned about a great number of deaths, so it actually doesn't seem like that many in the end...

Who was that child writhing on the floor under the chair supposed to be? Voldemort? x.x

Making use of tags, hehe, which I totally forgot about..

Ok, I'm a Draco fan, so expect that my recs will include Draco some way, somehow. 6_6 There are soo many good fics out there in the HP fandom that I don't even fav most of them.. X_______X So the ones I remember now are mostly the ones that are WIP, and incomplete. Seriously. So many good fics..... These ones stand out somehow.

Quality of Mercy by mistful WIP

I'm going to try to convey my feelings on this, but it may not work, because I'll keep saying 'ok' and all that. x_X""
But yes, OKAY, let me just say that ANY and probably ALL fics by mistful are worth reading. @_@ They are so addictive, but not in a conventional fandom sense... They are just so good. X_X"" She has a distinctive way of writing that is very difficult to achieve. She never makes any of the characters outright say what they mean or really feel, but the reader just knows, from the writing, what is going on. It just becomes obvious to the reader, hell of a lot of dramatic irony. But her fics are actually pretty light hearted (compared to other fics), and I love her characterization of Harry. For one, he isn't some big hero, with people sense and common sense all intact. He's dense, in denial, angry and can be uncharitable, downright mean at times, even prone to violence. And he is offset by Draco, Draco is my favourite character, and so I like him anyways, but she really gives a different spin on Draco which allows him to still be very in character, and yet makes his snarkiness and personality more understandable.

One of the things that I like the most in this fic will become obvious to you as you read the fic, armed with the knowledge that I like Draco in practically any slash pairing. This fic has slash, but there is a bit of het, just from the presence of Ginny. Don't get put off, its not really anything big, the real focus still is on slash, it's just that Ginny has a part in the story.

I would recommend this story even for those who are not HP fans or H/D fans. For those of you who are afraid of bad grammar/writing etc., you won't have a problem with mistful's, since she seems to be rather sensitive about grammar and all that herself.

If You've a Ready Mind by mistful

I'm not going to say anymore on mistful's writing, just that this fic is hillarious, still has H/D and damn, I think its still in progress. X_X"""" But my memory may be shot. Ever wonder what would happen if Draco was sorted in Ravenclaw instead? Well, you're about to find out. XD

Drop Dead Gorgeous by mistful

Antithesis to basically all veela fics out there. I was a little wary since I thought Draco might not take centre stage in this, heheh.... x__x'''' I feel this need to apologize (for my obsession), but I won't. Anyways, being a veela is not all that it's cracked up to be. Sums it up. Hehehe. Reading her fics in this order is actually not a bad idea, I would leave DDG till after I started at least one of the above fics. But that's just me. H/D and some het-ness that you know you don't have to take seriously anyways.

That's it for now, getting tired. But picking a colour for your room isn't the same as picking the colour of clothing.. or a bag or something. It changes colour on you when it gets on the walls. X______X

This is like asking 'who am I anyways'. %__% Before, when I was younger I liked the idea of painting a mural or collage or something on my wall.
Racist bullshit

I can't believe there is still this kind of semi-racist bullshit going on in lecture. =_+ We were talking about passionate love in psych 205, and how it seems to be universal accross all cultures. Even in ones where its sort of seen negatively. And this pro-european guy starts saying how in one study in China, none of the people showed passionate love. And he was saying it like Chinese people aren't properly people or something... Like only freaking europeans display 'passionate love'. WTF, seriously.

Its not the first time he's spoken up, but that just got me so mad.. I can't believe it, people in asian cultures display love differently, and yeah passionate love isn't the big thing that people in other cultures like to make it be. Especially since often times people can mistaken different types of arousal for love. I don't know what he is on all the time, but that was probably one study for one area of China. I have heard of a tribe where the men apparently spend like one night with their wives, and then after that they leave to where the men live separately to work. Yeah *maybe* they do live separately, and apparently that's supposed to indicate that passionate love isn't necessary so Chinese people don't feel passionate love??!

First for ONE thing, its only certain tribes etc. of China. Obviously he has NO idea how many diverse cultures there is in China, because its really different in different regions and even I feel that that culture/sitation is an anomaly. Even we feel its weird, so obviously it is NOT THE NORM. Of course he just generalizes, and doesn't bother to say something about that. And even if they do live that way, how DO you know that they don't feel passionate love?? It won't be the first time that societal pressures and cultural norms have caused people to repress their own desires and emotions. Everyone is *capable* of passionate love, and in psych we were JUST talking about how in order for people to be in 'passionate love' people have to be exposed to the idea or concept of it. It's questionable how anyone defines "passionate love" in the first place, because afterwards it may not be quite so passionate anymore, and you may even find out that it wasn't really "love" in the first place. So WTF? The concept of passionate love may not exactly be realistic, its a western concept for the same type of feelings that any human being can feel.

Yes, Sleeping Beauty etc are examples of the concept of passionate love in western cultures, but there are many stories to do with love and all that in asian cultures as well. Many, many myths and historical events. Why else do you think attempts to seduce the emperor/king, in order to control them are often so successful?? Because they can feel passionate love, and as in many cases love can be blind. In fact they're quite weak when it comes to love. At least for them.

MAYBE, he was only saying it because it argues for the side of cultural psychology and anthropology versus evolutionary psychology. But why does it feel like its somehow derogatory??

Don't forget, no matter how many western studies have been done on other cultures (such as asian ones), they are *always* on the outside looking in.

(And I was so mad, I would have said something about it too. But he was going on about how there was this "study" that was done on it. Really, its just seems like ammunition for prejudice. And of course the prof wants to know more and possibly agree, b/c its *cultural* psych. and its one more score for cultural psych. This got me so distracted too.)

Hi hi~ Yes it has been a loong time since i've done anything online except for lurking.. >.< Sorry people, i haven't tried very hard to work on anything i should... But you know, my wrist sucks so even now i am trying not to use it too much. Plus, as far as i am concerned, Furuba needs a whole new script. And i need more people help me get myself back into the flow of things... =_+;

As for anything else, i haven't even cleaned my room yet. Trust me, it really needs a cleaning too. X__X" I have counted 18 plus articles of clothing that i have bought this summer. That is not counting the shoes either. =_+: Yep... That's what happens when the mall is the main choice of entertainment for outings. I was spending.. Oh yes. But mostly my own money. Now i don't work anymore so i have to stop myself. Although i am a bit sick of the thought of shopping at the moment. x.x''

First time working this summer. @__@"" I didn't really want to take the job because of various health related reasons, but i ended up accepting it anyways for the experience. =_+" It was an interesting experience to be sure... A loss or a gain, i am really not sure. If i didn't take the job i might have had more time to myself.. But in the end that might not help me much either. I don't know.

I really have to get back into 'learning' and writing mode.. My math has always been bad, but i don't have to lose my ability to write... >.< The summer really does that to you, i hope my brain is still capable of writing an essay, etc.. Too bad it's so hard to find books i'll like to read... >.< Maybe i have to reread some. I've been reading mangas and basically fanfics, and there is just too much of a difference between the kind of writing found in a book and the kind of writing found in most fanfics. Even though some are really good. X_X: Gah.... English seems scary now. X__X

~~~~
Ok, well getting onto the topic of the post....
I really do need some song reccomendations... Good songs that can be in english, japanese, korean or chinese. Just as long as they are GOOD... And links too? e___e Please? I am always too lazy to go around looking for the good stuff, and i haven't decided if i want to go and buy songs just yet. I know i like this korean guy group, but there are so many and i don't know the name. X_X: I think they have a song called Rising Sun? X_X Yeah i'm a big media dummy... I don't actually listen to music all that much. Hard to believe but true. The quality of japanese music really has gone down lately though. {From what i have heard of it.} I don't know who actually sings good.. but yeah nothing like Taki & Tsubasa.. They don't sound like they have *air*.. for two people singing that's sort of sad. I heard a bit of KAT-TUN, i think they are decent, does anyone have any links for downloading their songs?
I'm paranoid about viruses etc... Haven't used any downloading programs for at least a year. >: \ I just got an ipod, and it's a damn shame not to actually have anything to listen to on it. Heheh... I could try to dl anime and watch it on the ipod too.... XD Once i figure out where to dl. ;_: *crosses fingers in the hopes that the anime files can be viewed on ipod*
Thanks for any help! : )
~~~~

I've said goodbye to more than a couple of friends leaving to go to uni in other provinces.. >.< And some are just living further away in the same province, but all the same... >.< I think it has yet to hit me that they are gone for all intents and purposes {except for their virtual presences?} and then i'll start to miss them... Good luck to all you people venturing out into the unknown~! But then again any uni is going to be a big unknown. =_+ I need some of that luck.

Hm.. I guess i didn't get to say goodbye to some (one).. I did leave a message on msn, but that isn't really all that personal. =_+ I would have gone and done something with them, but they are just too damn late in organizing whatever they want to do. -_- Some people just don't ever plan much ahead of time. Or maybe it's the fact that my presence isn't needed that badly. =___= If that is the case, then good thing i didn't bother to contact them, knowing as i did that i would have had to force them to get something together for us to do. Shouldn't have to be forced.. some friends are the friends of your heart, and some are just there because you are also there. =_=; And here i am trying to be all introspective and practice writing.. X_X""

Too little time until uni!! X_____O Only one more day left! *scared/nervous*

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Here's everything that i really should have posted before but never did. @__@ :)

Here is the poll in Hana to Yume for the top 10 fav characters in Fruits Basket in that order:

1. kyou
2. tohru
3. yuki
4. hatori
5. haru
6. momiji
7. kakeru
8. ayame
9. kureno
10. shigure

Mwahahaha~! Yes, japanese fans know how to pick it! ^^v [Well members of Hana to Yume anyway.] Go kyon kyon! All that angst has to come to something! >:)

Yuki is third.. Mwahahaha, something that must be pretty surprising for western fans. XD Mwahahahaa

Kakeru is this new chara & yuki's friend, sorta.

To continue on with my ultra long entry here, i need some more music! @_@ Songs, but i will soon have to beg for more recs... @__@;;;;

++++

Hmm.. what else. Oh yeah, on the HaruXKyou mL i am hoping to do another official chat this weekend, on the 8th, which is consequently my birthday. XD Please come, whoever is partial to HaruxKyou. Need more people! >.< And need to start writing something more.. Need to start some drabble challenges and the like at the mL too, need to flex those writer's muscles where ever they are. Mostly for those on the mL that is.

+++

School is approaching too soon! Why is early this year? Why so early every year? Argh, must do pile of homework and junk.

Oh, i was made to do the driver's knowledge test, about two days ago, *even though* i have not read half of the driver's manual. =_____= Smart huh? Well, it was hard reading that damn thing, and the expectation that i will memorize it is too much. Heheh, well i don't think my parents really cared much, it being the first time, they just wanted me to try it. I didn't pass, since you need an 80% to pass, and i got 1 question wrong too many, and ended up with 78%. Of course, i really didn't know s*** about half the questions. ^^;;;; Argh, but i have to take it again, like this tuesday. =___=*** Damn it. I don't have time to study what with doing my freaking homework. Maybe i'll get even luckier this time and actually pass! ;_:''

And here i am going to post what i have spent all day the day before yesterday working on. And if people don't appreciate it, fine. -_- I am not catering to their tastes anymore. It isn't really done, it needs some more work.

Itasasu! fanart piccie...
Shota Dreams~

Shinnen Omedeto!
