Pride of an anime fan?

An anime related incident; I met someone asian who did not watch/read anime/manga and actually disapproves of it, saying that it is 'sick and twisted'. At the time I didn't come up with any good comebacks because well, the things I like to watch/read are actually considered sick and twisted, lol, so nothing really occurred to me. But yeah, it's the first time really, that someone who's Chinese and my age said something like that about anime. It was on the bus too, and the first time I've really talked to him so it was awkward. It was really surprising... most of the Chinese/asian people I know have at least heard of anime/manga and are at least okay with other people watching/reading it. I said that I expected him to be more asian than this, because he's from China and lived in China for half his life, and his reply was that he's asian but not like that kind of asian, more "Chinese-asian".. like not Japanese influenced asian.. x_X"" The only comics he reads are like Chinese ones or english comic strips, ie. kevin and hobbs(?)...... and that's not even a real comic like Batman or whatever... =_=''''

He totally hurt my pride as an anime fan. =_=;; I mean, just because someone enjoys watching/reading anime and manga doesn't mean they're... not Chinese or have Japanese-sympathies, or that they're really sick, (maybe just a little lol).

His excuse is that he's Chinese-asian or whatever, but is that really how it is in China, like barely any anime/manga? I always thought that China would have just as much anime/manga as any other asian place. I mean I know people from China who like anime/manga (I'm excluding Hong Kong from this because obviously Hong Kong has tons of anime/manga, almost as much as like Japan lol) and some of them are crazy about it, and crazy yaoi fans too. My friend's cousin lives in China.. and she cosplays too.. So, isn't it just him? =_=;;; I really don't know for sure but what he said really annoys me.

Anyways, I've ranted long enough.. x_X"" please feel free to rant about anything back to me. X.X

It's just him. =_= My students from China have absolutely problems reading manga.

I know the whole China/Japan thing will always be a sensitive issue, and not something to be taken lightly, but it surprises me that the guy feels that way. I don't think this is the way to be nationalistic, frankly. Feels a bit hypocritical too. How does reading English comic strips make him any more Chinese-Asian, than Japanese-Asian? Makes no sense.

Sorry for ranting. ^^;; Sometimes moral grandstanding just gets to me.

No problem, I told you guys to rant back at me, lol.

Yeah, I thought it was just him... No way that people in China don't read/watch anime/manga. This guy is reaaally patriotic.. His msn name is 'I love you, China'. =_+" So I think he's kinda an exception. He sounds like my dad about ALOT of things. =_+'' It's no surprise that he doesn't like the idea of anime/manga even though he's never really read/watched anything.

He gives Chinese people a bad name by being so obvious and hard headed about things.. But it's just an individual thing..

I haven't even really known him for a week and he's already forcing his opinions about everything on me. x_X" And he's in more than a few of my classes.. =_____= *sigh*

Sorry for babbling about random things in my life, lol. =_+; This guy is just........ -_-

When I went to bookstores in China, it was hard to find manga. There were wayy more French comic books (Asterix, Lucky Luke) than manga.
The exception is Doraemon, which transcends everything haha.

Even in HK it wasn't easy to find manga (or maybe I wasn't looking in the right bookstores)

I've talked to my chinese friends and they say there's a lot of manga in china.. And when i went to hong kong i remembered that they sold manga in seven eleven.. x_X" Well that was more than a couple of years ago, but manga is really common in hong kong.. So is anime, it's on tv all the time.
